Charlottesville, Va.----Wingate University junior track and field student-athlete
Jakob Rettschlag won the men's 800 meters at the Virginia Challenge Saturday. The University of Virginia hosts the annual event inside Lannigan Field on the UVA campus.

Rettschlag's triumphant time of 1:50.74 breaks his previous school record of 1:51.25, established in the same Virginia Challenge event last year. A 2023 NCAA indoor national champion in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), Rettschlag's Saturday 800 meters time is the fastest mark in the South Atlantic Conference this season.

- In the 110 meter hurdles, Compton posted a new school-record time of 14.51
- Compton finished 10th in the 400 meter hurdles (54.54)
