Jamie Stanclift has announced the hiring of
Baylee Morton as the assistant coach for the Bulldogs. Morton joins the Wingate staff after a standout career at Appalachian State University.
"Baylee's knowledge of the game from many aspects, and her passion for teaching and building relationships make her a great fit," Stanclift says. "She will bring the competitive energy and work ethic to our program that we expect from our players and staff, and I am excited to have Baylee working alongside us representing Wingate University Softball as we continue to reach new heights."
Morton played in 235 games with the Mountaineers in her collegiate career, blasting 33 homers while driving in 109 runs. She also had 22 doubles and a triple, compiling a career. 428 slugging percentage while scoring 81 runs. Morton was a strength and conditioning All-American.
"I am so excited to get to work with this staff and continue to build on the winning tradition Wingate has created," Morton says.
Prior to her career at Appalachian State, Morton won a state championship at nearby Parkwood High School in 2017. She joined the coaching staff at Union Academy after graduating from Appalachian State, helping the program win its first-ever state championship in the spring of 2023.
Morton joins a Wingate program coming off a historic season. The Bulldogs went 48-17 overall and 18-6 in the SAC, capturing the first regular season conference title since 2009. The 'Dogs earned hosting duties at the NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history and made their first-ever trip to the Super Regionals. Wingate set program records for wins, runs and homers in 2023.
