#19 Wingate rolls past Newberry in home opener

Wingate, N.C.----The 19th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs hit .394 Saturday afternoon, while holding Newberry College to a -.010 hitting percentage in a dominant 3-0 victory in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate won by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-7 to improve to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in league play.

- The 'Dogs had 44 kills and just five errors in 99 attacks to hit .394
- The Wolves had 19 kills and 20 errors in 103 swings to hit -.010

FIRST SET

- Rowoldt's kill gave Wingate a 10-7 lead
- Kills from Johnson and Saye stretched the lead to four
- A Madison Watson kill pulled Newberry within one at 14-13
- WU scored the next seven behind Young's serving to go on top 21-13
- Young had two aces in the spurt; Rowoldt and Morland added two kills each
- Back-to-back Johnson kills made it 24-14; Saye's kill ended it

SECOND SET

- A 5-0 run put the 'Dogs on top 7-3, getting a kill and an ace from Rowoldt
- Four straight Saye kills gave the Bulldogs a 12-4 advantage
- A Rowoldt kill and back-to-back Johnson blocks made it 19-7
- Stacherski's kill made it 24-10; a Stacherski block ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Kills from Stacherski and Young put the Bulldogs on top 7-4
- An Anna Schneider kill cut the lead to two at 9-7
- Wingate responded by scoring the final 16 points of the set, with more strong serving from Young
- Young started the flurry with a kill and an ace, while another ace made it 14-7
- Back-to-back Morland kills extended the lead to 13 at 20-7
- A kill and a block from Johnson made it 24-7; Morland ended the match with a kill
