Anderson edges Wingate in five-set thriller

Anderson, S.C.----The Anderson University Trojans bounced back from dropping the opening set Friday night, rallying for a 3-2 victory over #19 Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. The Trojans won by scores of 12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25 and 18-16 to improve to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs fall to 9-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play.

- Anderson had 63 kills and 25 errors in 170 attacks to hit .224
- Wingate had 58 kills and 21 errors in 150 swings, hitting .247
- The Bulldogs had 12 of the 20 blocks on the night
- The 'Dogs held a 12-3 advantage in aces

- Amber Rowoldt had 13 kills, 16 digs and two blocks

- A Johnson kill and Rowoldt block made it 24-12; an AU error ended the set

SET TWO

- Back-to-back Rowoldt kills gave Wingate a 9-8 advantage
- Rylie Sargent capped a 3-0 run with a kill to put Anderson on top 11-9
- WU scored six of the next seven, getting two Rowoldt kills and a Jamerson ace to make it 15-12
- A Brantley Chipley kill tied it at 18
- The Trojans went on a 6-0 run, going on top 24-19 on a Chipley block
- Sargent's kill ended the frame

SET THREE

- A Tabitha Wheeler kill gave Anderson an 8-5 lead in the third set
- Sargent's kill made it 14-10
- A Saye kill and Van Heyst ace pulled the Bulldogs within one
- Kills from Stacherski and Rowoldt tied it at 15
- The Trojans scored the next four, taking a 19-15 lead on a Sadie Kluner kill
- WU answered with a 4-0 run, tying it at 21 on back-to-back Jamerson aces
- AU answered with a 4-0 run to take the set, with a Chipley kill ending the frame

SET FOUR

- Kills from Rowoldt and Johnson, along with a Young ace gave the 'Dogs a 10-3 lead
- A Rowldt kill, Young block and Van Heyst ace made it 16-7
- AU scored seven of the next nine, with a Jenna Long kill cutting the lead to four
- Kills from Rowoldt and Saye, followed by a Rowoldt ace made it 21-15
- Long capped a 4-0 run with an ace to pull AU within two at 21-19
- Saye answered with a kill
- A Sargent kill cut the lead back to one at 22-21
