Bethlehem, Pa.----The No. 3 Wingate University men's cross country team finished second in the 43-team Paul Short Run College Gold Division Saturday, defeating 34 NCAA Division I teams on the way to its podium finish. Junior
Ricardo Barbosa (pictured above) claimed seventh place in his Bulldog debut, thanks to his 8K time of 24:13.2. Lehigh University hosted the 49th annual Paul Short Run on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
The defending South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Region champions, Wingate posted 123 points. Ivy League member Yale University won the event with 101 points. The Bulldogs defeated Liberty, Penn State, Navy, Georgia Tech, Army, Georgia and East Carolina, among others. Wingate finished second in the NCAA Division II national championship meet last season.

Pol Domenech: "The goal for today was to recreate the national championship experience, competing against a large and fast field. The men executed the race plan well and positioned themselves towards the front right away. They fought for the top position all the way to the finish line."

Both Wingate teams will compete in the Queens University of Charlotte Royals Challenge Friday, Oct. 6 at McAlpine Creek Park. The South Atlantic Conference cross country championships are Saturday, Oct. 21 in Newton, North Carolina. Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting the SAC event at the Southside Park.
