Limestone rides hot shooting to victory over Wingate

Gaffney, S.C.----The Limestone University Saints knocked down 10 of their first 14 threes Saturday afternoon, jumping out to an early 16-point lead en route to a 95-78 victory over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. Limestone improves to 10-10 overall and 6-5 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 14-5 overall and 9-2 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Limestone shot 54 percent from the field, going 14-for-29 from three-point range (48 percent)
- Wingate shot 44 percent from the field, connecting on four-of-24 shots from deep (17 percent)
- The Saints held a 38-33 rebounding advantage and 13-12 edge in second-chance points

- A Sirr Hughes three gave Limestone a 19-7 advantage
- Another Hughes triple at the 7:40 mark put the Saints on top by 16
- Miller answered with a there, while Nixon's triple with five minutes left made it 34-24
- Zeb Graham knocked down a three to push the Limestone advantage back to 16
- Buckets from Miller and Massey, along with a Reid Loewen three-point play cut it to nine at 40-31

SECOND HALF

- A pair of Graham triple put the Saints back on top by 15 at 62-47
- Yow's layup with 11 minutes left pushed the Limestone advantage back to 16
- Massey's layup cut it back to 12, but a Yow three made it 72-55 at the 7:50 mark
- Wingate scored the next eight, getting four points from Taylor to cut the lead to nine
- Taylor's three-point play with 5:11 to go made it 73-66
- A pair of Graham buckets helped Limestone stretch the lead back to 14 at 84-70
- Wingate got no closer than 13 the rest of the way
