Wingate, N.C.----The nationally-ranked Wingate University men's and women's swimming teams sent out 11 seniors in style with a dual meet sweep over Barton College at the WU Natatorium Saturday. The No. 7 Wingate men defeated the BC Bulldogs 167-90, while the No. 9 Bulldog women earned a 174-83 over their Conference Carolinas' visitors.

Wingate's 11 seniors helped the Bulldogs win the inaugural South Atlantic Conference swimming championship meets last February. The 11 student-athletes are getting it done in the classroom as well, as the senior class possesses an aggregate GPA of 3.755.

In pre-meet ceremonies, the University's athletic department honored seven women and four men. Wingate's 11 seniors include Hailey Freed, Katherine Fronczak, Mary Heffron, Abby Hoshour, Hana Kubalova, Berkley Smith and Amanda Wenhold on the women's team. The men's team seniors are Alexi Gentz, Yann Van Den Bossche, Jack Wisniewski and Connor Wright.

What They Are Saying
Wingate junior team captain Lucie Andrews

"We had a great senior meet with strong swims from the team. It was bittersweet to see our seniors swim their final dual meet—they are great teammates and a very important part of the team to all of us. We will be sad to see them go, but we will always be grateful for what they have given to the team! I can't wait to see what the team will do with the rest of the season!"

Wingate junior team captain Gabriel da Costa

"Today was a great day! Winning this dual meet especially on Senior Day was definitely a special taste. I am so happy that I could share three years of my time at Wingate with these seniors. They will be missed, but they know the job is not done yet. We have conference soon and we are very excited and confident for this. WU WHAT? WU SWIM!"

Wingate senior team captain Hana Kubalova

"Today's senior meet was a very special experience and will be a great memory forever! It truly showed me how much I like this team and how much I appreciate being part of it! WU What? WU Swim!"

Wingate junior team captain Kevin Rusu

"Today was a great day for the seniors and for the team. Senior Day is always a special and emotional day for the whole team. I think we are all happy about the results today and we can't wait to swim very fast at conference and nationals!"
