Beale’s triple-double highlights Wingate’s 83-66 victory over Pioneers

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore guard Laney Beale piled up 10 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to an 83-66 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while the Pioneers fall to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 47 percent from the field, going 11-for-25 from three-point range (44 percent)
- Tusculum shot 44 percent from the field, going seven-for-28 from deep (25 percent)

FIRST QUARTER

- Hege's three gave the 'Dogs an early 9-7 lead
- WU used an 8-0 run to go on top 17-9, getting four points from Clark in the flurry
- A Jenna Kallenberg triple with two minutes left pulled Tusculum to within four
- Beale's jumper pushed it back to six, but a Lexi Patty bucket at the buzzer made it 19-15

SECOND QUARTER

- A Patty triple in the opening minute cut the lead to one at 19-18
- The 'Dogs went on a 20-0 run to blow things open
- Hege had eight points in the flurry including the triple to cap it; Clark added six points while Beale had five assists
- Hege's run-capping triple came with four minutes left, putting the 'Dogs on top 42-20
- A Simona Henshaw bucket with 32 seconds left cut the lead to 15
- Clark's layup with five seconds left made it 48-31 at halftime

THIRD QUARTER

- Buckets from Clark, Beale and Hege put WU on top 53-35 at the 6:36 mark
- Henshaw's triple a minute later cut the lead to 15
- Clark answered with a three to make it 58-40 at the midway point
- Two Henshaw free throws cut the lead to 12 with 3:14 remaining
- WU scored the next seven, with a Wilson triple making it 67-48
- A Carleigh Wilson layup in the final minute made it 67-52 heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- A Clark three and Hege layup gave the Bulldogs a 76-57 cushion with 6:12 to go
- Buckets from Hege and Anderson pushed the lead to 23 at the 4:41 mark
- Tusculum got no closer than 16 the rest of the way
