Bulldogs hold off Eagles in five

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs won the first two sets against Carson-Newman University Friday night in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena, but the Eagles battled back to force a fifth set which the 'Dogs claimed 15-7 en route to a 3-2 victory. Wingate prevailed 25-15, 25-16, 25-27, 22-25 and 15-7 to improve to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in league play. Wingate has now had five matches go five sets this year, going 3-2 in those contests, with a 2-0 mark in Cuddy Arena.

- A Morland kill, followed by a kill and an ace from Van Heyst gave Wingate a 9-6 lead

- Two blocks and a kill from Johnson sparked a 5-1 run that gave the 'Dogs a 14-10 advantage
- Wingate used a 5-0 run to take a 20-12 lead, getting kills from Van Heyst, Stacherski and Morland
- A Saye Kill and Johnson block made it 24-15; a Carson-Newman error ended the frame

SET TWO

- An ace and a kill from Van Heyst, along with kills from Saye and Stacherski gave WU a 6-0 lead
- Kills from Stacehrski, Saye and Elsa Lamphere put the 'Dogs on top 10-2
- A 5-0 run stretched the lead to 11, highlighted by a Van Heyst block and Stacherski kill

- The 'Dogs reeled off four straight, with a Stacherski kill and Van Heyst block making it 7-3

- A Van Heyst kill, Edwards block, Hoffman ace and Edwards kill sparked a 4-0 run, making it 12-5
- Kills from Van Heyst and Saye put the 'Dogs on top 14-7; Stacherski's kill ended the match
