SAC CHAMPS! Wingate wins 2-0 at Coker to claim outright regular season SAC title

Hartsville, S.C.----For the first time in program history, the Wingate University Bulldogs have won the outright regular season South Atlantic Conference women's soccer championship. The Bulldogs prevailed 2-0 at Coker Wednesday evening, while a 1-1 tie between Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne clinched the outright championship for the Bulldogs. Wingate wraps up the regular season at 11-2-3 overall, going 9-1-1 in SAC play to finish atop league standings. Coker falls to 9-5-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the conference. Catawba scored a goal in the 90th minute to earn the draw at Lenoir-Rhyne late Wednesday night.

FIRST HALF

- The Bulldogs dominated the opening 45 minutes, taking 13 of the 15 shots
- Wingate was unable to score, despite putting seven shots on frame
- Faucette notched a pair of saves in the opening half to keep Coker off the board

SECOND HALF

- Maino got the scoring started in the 73rd minute
- Her first goal of the season put the 'Dogs on top 1-0
- Polk added an insurance goal in the 81st minute
- She scored her third goal of the year off a Baptista Filipe assist to make it 2-0

UP NEXT

- Wingate is the number one seed in the SAC Tournament, which starts Saturday
- The Bulldogs will host Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals
- The winner advances to the semifinals Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
- The championship game is slated for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m.
- The semifinals and championship match will take place at the Matthews Sportsplex
