Bulldogs ride quick start to wire-to-wire victory over Wasps

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs raced out to a 23-3 lead Wednesday afternoon and never looked back, cruising to a 69-42 victory over Emory & Henry in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate wins its sixth straight league game, moving to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the SAC, while the Wasps fall to 5-9 overall and 0-8 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 45 percent from the field, going four-for-13 from three-point range (31 percent)
- E&H shot 31 percent from the field, connecting on four-of-19 from deep (21 percent)
- The 'Dogs held a 42-30 rebounding advantage and 13-6 edge in second-chance points
- Wingate scored 21 points off 22 E&H turnovers, notching 10 steals on the night
- The Bulldogs outscored the Wasps 42-18 in the paint

FIRST QUARTER

- The Bulldogs outscored the Wasps 19-3 in the opening 10 minutes
- Beale scored right off the opening tip to give the 'Dogs a quick start
- A Massey three and Anderson jumper made it 9-0 at the 6:45 mark
- Gracyn Hall got E&H on the board with a three with 6:29 to go
- The Bulldogs closed out the frame on a 10-0 run
- Bacon, Beale and Baraldi started the flurry with buckets; Bacon's layup made it 19-3

SECOND QUARTER

- Oliver's layup at the 8:34 mark put the 'Dogs on top 23-3
- The Wasps used a 9-1 run to cut the lead to 12 on an Hall triple
- Two Ekperigha buckets sparked a 6-0 run to make it 30-12 with 2:46 to go
- A Talia St. Hilaire layup in the final minute cut the lead back to 14
- Oliver's bucket in the final seconds made it 34-18

THIRD QUARTER

- Wingate scored the first eight of the second half, with Anderson and Beale each scoring four points to make it 42-18
- Oliver's layup at the midway point of the frame gave the 'Dogs a 46-22 advantage
- A Breanna Yarber triple in the final minute cut the lead to 16 at 49-33

FOURTH QUARTER

- A layup and triple from Bacon gave the 'Dogs a 58-35 lead three minutes into the fourth
- Maggie Shorma's bucket extended the lead to 25
- A Shaylin Pollock jumper with 2:53 to go made it 66-42
- Kyndall Shivers buried a three with 1:09 to go to make the final margin 69-42
