Bulldogs ride strong pitching to 4-2 victory over Flying Fleet

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had six pitchers combined to allow just two runs Tuesday afternoon, prevailing 4-2 against Erskine College in NCAA Division II baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate moves to 3-4 on the year, while the Flying Fleet fall to 3-5 on the season.

- The Bulldogs had two of the three extra-base hits
- The 'Dogs left 11 on base; the Flying Fleet stranded nine
- Wingate had the only three stolen bases

- Brett Adams and Ricky Clark each collected a hit, RBI and run scored
- Andrew McKay added a double and an RBI

FIRST INNING

- Harris drew a leadoff walk, then went to second on a passed ball
- He scored on a sacrifice fly from Adams to make it 1-0

FIFTH INNING

- An Adams single and Barnett walk put two on for the 'Dogs
- Clark drove home Adams with an RBI single to push the lead to two
- McKay followed with a sacrifice fly, plating Barnett to make it 3-0

SEVENTH INNING

- A Josean Sánch RBI single got Erskine on the board
- Clark drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the frame, then went to third on McKay's double
- A sacrifice fly from Crevelt plated Clark to make it 4-1

WRAPUP

- Morgon got the win, moving to 1-0
- He tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out three
- Barnett notched his first save of the year, allowing one run in the ninth
- Noah Palmese took the loss, allowing three runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings

UP NEXT

- Wingate opens SAC play at Newberry this weekend, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
