‘Dogs take two at Newberry to finish off three-game sweep

Newberry, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs finished off an impressive opening weekend of conference play Saturday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader at defending league champion Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Wingate won the opener 13-7, then rallied for a 10-6 victory in game two to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in league play. The Bulldogs plated 34 runs in the three-game sweep

- Naylor lined a one-out single in the seventh
- He scored when Dansky was hit by a pitch to make it 11-3
- A bases-loaded walk and hit batter in the bottom of the frame cut the lead to six
- Kade Faircloth added an RBI single to make it 11-7

EIGHTH INNING

- Barnett led off the frame with a single
- An RBI single from Williams-Rhem stretched the Wingate lead back to five

NINTH INNING

- Harris singled to start the ninth
- He scored on an RBI double from Adams to make it 13-7

WRAPUP

- Dotson got the win, moving to 1-1
- He allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one
- Ethan LeBron took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in three innings
