‘Dogs pile up highest point total in 11 years in 116-103 win over Cobras

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs poured in 116 points Wednesday night, taking down Coker University 116-103 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 11-10 overall and 7-6 in league play. The 'Dogs hit the century mark for the fourth time this season. The 116 points are the most by a Wingate team since scoring 120 points against Mars Hill in February of 2013.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 57 percent from the field, going 12-for-19 from three-point range (63 percent)
- Coker shot 45 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-40 from deep (45 percent)
- The 'Dogs held a 43-34 rebounding advantage; the Cobras held a 10-14 edge in second-chance points
- Wingate piled up 26 assists on 40 made field goals, turning it over just seven times

KEY BULLDOGS

- Corbin Pack had 29 points in 22 minutes, going 11-for-15 from the field and seven-for-nine from deep
- Donell Nixon added 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds on six-of-10 shooting from the field
- Josh Massey had 22 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and two assists
- Kendall Taylor contributed 18 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and a block on six-of-10 shooting
- Vontrez Roberts added 16 points and seven boards, going eight-for-10 from the field
- Taylor Bell had eight points, four boards and two assists

FIRST HALF

- A Nixon triple and Taylor layup gave Wingate a 16-11 lead five minutes in
- A pair of Pack threes made it 26-19 at the 13:23 mark
- Pack added a layup to push the lead to nine
- Pack's triple with 11:44 to go stretched the lead to double figures
- A Marvin Brumfield three a minute later cut the lead to six at 31-25
- Nixon answered with a three to push it back to nine
- A Hayden Abdullah jumper with eight minutes left pulled Coker within four at 38-34
- A Nixon four-point play and Roberts layup put the 'Dogs back on top by 10
- Abdullah's layup cut the lead back to five with 6:35 remaining
- A pair of Nixon free throws and a Pack jumper made it 51-42 at the 3:56 mark
- Andre Leavell cut the deficit to six at 53-47
- Pack buried a triple to give the 'Dogs a 58-50 advantage
- An Anthony Burch three and Mahmoud Bangura layup cut the lead to three
- A Roberts layup in the final seconds gave Wingate a 60-55 halftime lead

SECOND HALF

- A Glenn Bynum triple pulled Coker within one in the opening minute
- A pair of Massey jumpers sparked a 6-0 run that put WU on top 68-61
- Leavell's jumper at the 17:20 mark cut the lead to two
- Back-to-back Taylor buckets capped a 6-0 run that gave Wingate a 78-69 cushion
- Pack's triple at the 11:11 mark made it 83-74
- Another Pack three pushed the advantage back to double figures at the midway point
- Abdullah's dunk pulled Coker back within four at the 8:50 mark
- WU scored the next eight, getting three-point plays from Nixon and Massey to go on top 96-84
- A three and a layup from Pack made it 101-86 with 6:19 remaining
- Back-to-back layups from Roberts pushed the lead to 20 at 110-90
- Two Massey free throws with 1:33 remaining gave WU its largest lead at 114-92
