Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs and Lander University Bearcats were through four innings in Friday afternoon's NCAA Southeast Region softball elimination game when inclement weather hit the Wingate area. The weather wiped out the action for the rest of the day. The two teams will resume action Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Lander leads the contest 3-0, with the Bulldogs coming up to bat in the top of the fifth inning.
Wingate opened the day Friday with a 9-5 setback against Lenoir-Rhyne. Lander then defeated Anderson to setup the final elimination game of the day between the Bulldogs and Bearcats. A weather delay of over an hour during the Anderson vs. Lander contest pushed the start of the final game to 4:45 p.m.
The winner of the Wingate vs. Lander contest will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lenoir-Rhyne. If Lenoir-Rhyne wins that contest, the Bears will advance to the super regionals. If LR loses, there will be one final game Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to decide who advances to supers.
