Sydney Morland has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Morland earns Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season and third time in her career.
Morland had another impressive week, leading #20 Wingate to two more SAC victories. The 'Dogs opened the week by taking down Lenoir-Rhyne 3-1 in a battle of the only two SAC teams without a league loss. The Bulldogs followed with a 3-1 victory over LMU Friday night.
Morland piled up 27 kills on the week, committing just two errors in 56 swings, hitting .446 with her 3.38 kills per set. She also collected 11 blocks on the week. Morland started the week with 12 kills and seven blocks in the LR victory, hitting .367 on the night. She followed by notching 15 kills in 26 swings against LMU, hitting .538 while notching four more blocks.
Morland leads the SAC and ranks fourth in the nation with her .439 hitting percentage, while ranking second in the conference with 3.55 kills per set and third with 1.02 blocks per set. Morland is the active career leading in all of D2 volleyball with her .401 career hitting percentage. The 2024 SAC and Region Player of the Year was an AVCA second team All-American and D2CCA third team honoree.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 7 p.m. start. The 'Dogs host UVA Wise Friday at 7 p.m., then welcome Emory & Henry to town Saturday at noon on Senior Day.
