Pembroke, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-2 lead Friday evening, rolling to a 70-58 victory at UNC Pembroke in NCAA Division II women's basketball action. The Bulldogs start the season 1-0, while UNCP falls to 0-1.

SECOND QUARTER
- A layup and three from Shorma stretched the lead back to 18 two minutes into the second
- Another Evengton triple trimmed the lead to 15
- Buckets from Beale and Merceron gave Wingate a 40-21 lead midway through the frame
- Abby Sheets hit a three with eight seconds left to make it 40-28 at halftime
THIRD QUARTER
- An Anastasia Sinclair layup a minute into the half pulled UNCP within five at 40-35
- Buckets from Bacon and Chavis pushed the lead back to nine a minute later
- A Bre'Asia Washington layup at the 3:55 mark made it a two-point game at 49-47
- A Merceron jumper and three-point play sparked a 7-0 run that gave the 'Dogs a 56-47 lead
- A Chavis layup with 53 seconds to go to make it 58-49
- A Tiana Spann bucket 30 seconds later made it a seven-point game heading to the fourth
FOURTH QUARTER
- The 'Dogs scored the first 10 points of the final quarter to stretch the lead back to 17
- Bacon had four points in the flurry, while a layup and two free throws from Montiel capped the run with four minutes left
- Two more Beale free throws with 1:53 remaining put the 'Dogs on top 70-53
