Bulldogs go 1-1 Sunday in Florence

Florence, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs opened the day with a 7-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas Sunday afternoon in NCAA Division II softball action, while Francis Marion prevailed 7-1 in the final game of the weekend. The 'Dogs move to 7-9 on the season.

GAME ONE | WINGATE 7 ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

- The Bulldogs had six of the eight extra-base hits including the lone homer
- The 'Dogs left nine on base; the Spartans stranded five

- Scott led off the frame with a double, then moved to third on a Stevens single
- Scott scored when Burns reached on an error to tie it at one
- Perry drew a bases-loaded walk to give Wingate the lead
- Another error allowed Burns to score, making it 3-1

THIRD INNING

- A Scott double and Stevens walk started the inning
- An infield single from Burns loaded the bases
- Thomas put the 'Dogs on top 5-1 with a two-run single

FOURTH INNING

- Scott got things started with a two-out double
- Stevens followed with a two-run homer to make it 7-1

- Thomas got the win, allowing a run on two hits in four innings, striking out two
- Horodecki notched her first save, allowing three hits in three shutout innings
