#19 Wingate goes 1-1 on first day of Florida trip

Miami Shores, Fla.----The 19th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to a 9-1 victory over Colorado School of Mines to open up their six-game weekend in Florida before falling 3-1 at Barry University in NCAA Division II softball action. The 'Dogs move to 2-2 on the season.

- Each team had one extra-base hit
- The Bulldogs left eight on base; the Orediggers stranded seven
- Mines committed the only two errors in the contest

- Hali Scott tossed four no-hit innings, striking out five
- Riley Davis had a hit and two RBI

SECOND INNING

- Bryan got things started with a one-out double

- Hobgood reached on an error to drive in McFadden, with another run scoring on the error to make it 3-0

FOURTH INNING

- McFadden led off the frame with a single, then scored on an RBI single from Brooks
- Brooks scored on a wild pitch to put the 'Dogs on top by five
- Davis ripped a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-0

SIXTH INNING

- A Brooks single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Wingate
- Bryan's RBI single made it 8-1
- Perry's RBI groundout pushed the lead to eight, ending the contest

WRAPUP

- Scott got the win, moving to 1-1 on the year
- She tossed four shutout frames without allowing a hit, striking out five
- Jamie Horodecki went two innings, allowing a run on just one hit, striking out one
- Ellen Shull took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings of work
