#5 Wingate picks up 12-11 victory at #15 Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla.----The fifth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up an impressive road victory Saturday afternoon, prevailing 12-11 at #15 Florida Southern in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action. Wingate moves to 2-0 on the year, while the Mocs fall to 0-2 overall, with both losses coming to top-five opponents.

SECOND PERIOD

- Goss scored off a Spence assist at the 12:29 mark to push the lead back to two
- Spence set up Papach for a goal with 8:56 to go, making it 4-1
- FSC struck twice in a minute, cutting the lead to 4-3 on a Vinnie Muscella goal with 1:31 remaining

THIRD PERIOD

- Clark scored off a Goss assist two minutes in to make it 5-3
- Nolan Tighe scored 40 seconds later to pull the Mocs back within a goal
- Grant and Goss scored in an 80-second stretch to give the Bulldogs a 7-4 advantage
- Goals from Clark and Moran put the 'Dogs on top 9-5 with six minutes left
- Grant Ansted scored in the final minute of the frame, making it 9-6 heading to the fourth

FOURTH PERIOD

- Grant scored at the 11:40 mark to push the WU lead back to four
- Walton's goal cut the lead to three just 40 seconds later
- Samson and Clark scored in a 14-second span to give the 'Dogs a 12-7 lead with 8:07 to go
- Florida Southern scored the next four goals to pull within one
- The Mocs scored three times in 70 seconds, with a Jack Epley goal at the 4:15 mark making it 12-10
- Brydon Robichaud scored with 1:42 remaining to make it a one-goal game
- FSC won the face-off and took five shots in 44 seconds, but only one on frame
- Robichaud put the shot on frame with 12 seconds left, but Williams was there for the save
