Wilgeroth’s goal give Wingate thrilling 15-14 victory over Panthers in season opener

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior attack Kaleigh Wilgeroth scored with six seconds left in overtime, giving the Bulldogs a 15-14 victory over Florida Tech in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and Founders Field. Wingate starts the season 1-0, while the Panthers fall to 0-2 overall.

- Sophia Scichilone scored a minute later to pull the Panthers within one
- Fuchs answered 30 seconds later with a goal off a Watson assist
- Millard's goal at the 2:51 mark gave Wingate a 6-3 advantage
- Sofie Bender scored in the final minute to cut the lead to two

SECOND QUARTER

- Scichilone and Craig scored in the first four minutes to tie it at six
- Blakely's goal at the 9:30 mark put the 'Dogs back on top by one
- Florida Tech scored the next three, with a Charlotte Hardie goal at the 3:19 mark giving FIT a 9-7 lead
- Millard scored off a Scarfogliero assist with 37 seconds left to cut the lead to one
- Scarfogliero set up a Weber goal 18 seconds later to tie it at nine
- Clare McGuire scored with four seconds left to give the Panthers a 10-9 lead

THIRD QUARTER

- Wilgeroth scored off Garvin's assist three minutes in to tie it at 10
- Bender put FIT back on top with a goal at the 10:18 mark
- Scarfogliero's goal off a Millard assist tied it at 11 with 7:19 remaining
- Bender scored with four minutes left to give Florida Tech a one-goal lead

FOURTH QUARTER

- Bender's goal three minutes in extended the lead to two
- Higgins scored at the 6:48 mark off a Blakely assist to make it 13-12
- Fuchs scored 31 seconds later to tie it
- Watson scored off a Millard assist with 4:05 to go, putting the 'Dogs on top 14-13
- Florida Tech tied it in the final second, with a Michaela Wittman shot just beating the buzzer

OVERTIME

- The Panthers won the draw control, but the WU defense held strong, getting it back with 1:27 to go
- Wilgeroth drew a foul with six seconds remaining
- The All-SAC honoree converted the free-position shot to give the 'Dogs the victory
