‘Dogs open three-game series with 17-3 victory at Mars Hill

Mars Hill, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs opened up the three-game series at Mars Hill in style Friday afternoon, rollign to a 17-3 victory in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Wingate improves to 9-10 overall and 6-4 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 5-16 overall and 1-6 in league play.

- The 'Dogs had five of the eight extra-base hits with the lone homer
- The Bulldogs left 10 on base; the Lions stranded nine

- Cam Harris drove in five runs, collecting a pair of hits and scoring a run

THIRD INNING

- Groppuso started the inning with a double
- He scored on Sullivan's RBI triple to give Wingate a three-run cushion
- Weisner followed with a two-run homer to put the 'Dogs on top 5-0

FOURTH INNING

- The Bulldogs plated six runs in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead
- Crevelt was hit by a pitch to start the frame, then moved to third on Barefoot's single
- Courville's RBI double started the scoring
- A Groppuso RBI groundout made it 7-0
- Sullivan drove in Courville when he scored on an error to push the lead to eight

- Weisner's sacrifice fly extended the lead to 13
- Harris followed with a two-run single to put the 'Dogs on top 15-0

SEVENTH INNING

- Three walks loaded the bases for the Bulldogs in the seventh
- Barefoot's RBI groundout made it 16-2
- Josh Haggerty scored the final run of the day on a wild pitch

WRAPUP

- Hoover got the win, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings, striking out nine
- Dylan Vega took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits in four innings of work
