#6 Wingate scores early and often in 23-7 victory over Mars Hill

Wingate, N.C.----The sixth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs scored 11 goals in the opening period Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 23-7 victory over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at Irwin Belk Stadium and Founders Field. The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.

FIRST PERIOD

- Clark had two goals and an assist in the first four minutes, with Samson adding a goal
- Spaeth won a face-off after a Clark goal and scored five seconds later to make it 4-0
- Moran's goal a minute later pushed the lead to five
- Samson scored at the 8:20 mark to make it 6-0
- Clark scored off a Spence assist with six minutes left to give WU a 7-1 lead
- Murray scored 80 seconds later off a Watson assist to push the lead to seven
- Butrico scored at the 3:42 mark, making it 9-2
- Papach scored 36 seconds later to put the 'Dogs in double figures
- Butrico scored off a Spence assist with seven seconds left to make it 11-2

SECOND PERIOD

- MHU struck twice in the first minute, making it 11-4 on a Sam Arendt goal
- Moran answered with a goal off a Spence assist, while Spence's goal at the 9:47 mark made it 13-4
- Moran and Butrico scored in a 38-second span off assists from Clark and Spence to push the lead to 11
- Grant's goal with 13 seconds left put the 'Dogs on top 16-4

THIRD PERIOD

- Tillett started the scoring in the opening minute of the second half off a Spence assist
- Butrico scored twice in 40 seconds off assists from Goss and Clark to make it 19-4
- Clark scored off a Butrico assist with 7:40 to go to give the Bulldogs 20 goals

FOURTH PERIOD

- Mitcho scored off Papach's assist with 10:40 remaining
- Bocketti added a goal a minute later to make it 22-6
- Solazzo capped the scoring with 27 seconds left, giving the 'Dogs the 23-7 victory
