Wingate’s Cabrera takes second in 1500 meters; ’Dogs earn 11 AA awards on final day of NCAAs

Pueblo, Colo.----The Wingate University men's and women's track and field teams collected 11 All-American awards on the final day of the NCAA Division II outdoor national championships inside the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl Saturday. Senior Titouan Le Grix and junior Mia Cabrera led the way, finishing second in the men's and women's 1500 meters, respectively.
 
The Wingate men's team finished a program-best fourth place among 67 teams who scored points. The Bulldogs completed the three-day event with 38 points, edging Harding for the last podium spot. The HU Bison had 37 points. Pittsburg State won its fourth consecutive team title with 111 points. West Texas A&M and Grand Valley State finished second (66 points) and third (48 points), respectively.

- Junior Mia Cabrera finished second in the 1500 meters with her time of 4:29.62
- Sophomore Evie Brooks finished ninth in the same race (4:35.75)
- Cabrera is a first team AA, while Brooks earns second team AA laurels
- Grand Valley State senior Klaudia O'Malley won the 1500 meters (4:29.11)
- Cabrera also competed in the 5000 meters Saturday
- Freshman Hayat Abdeselam competed in the triple jump Saturday
- Wingate finished tied for 30th place with eight points
- Grand Valley State edged Adams State by one point (60-59) to take the team title
- Pittsburg State took third place with 54.5 points
- West Texas A&M and Fresno Pacific tied for fourth place with 35 points

- Wingate had five All-Americans in the 1500 meters
- Four Bulldogs received first team All-American laurels
- Le Grix took second place with his time of 3:50.09
- Senior Hamza Chahid finished in fourth place (3:50.74)
- Junior Luca Poppe finished in fifth place (3:50.82)
- Sophomore David Holman took seventh place (3:51.40)
- Senior Jakob Rettschlag took 11th place (3:57.54)
- The 'Dogs had four All-Americans in the 5000 meters
- Two made the first team and two made the second team
- Junior Lars Laros took seventh place with his time of 14:38.40
- Chahid finished eighth to take the last first team AA trophy (14:39.90)
- Junior Antonin Saint Peyre finished in ninth place (14:43.45)
- Le Grix finished in 11th place (14:54.37) to earn second team AA
- The Wingate men completed the '25 event with 14 All-American awards
