No. 1 Wingate earns third-place showing in 12th annual Bulldog Stampede

Wingate, N.C.----The No. 1 Wingate University men's cross country team finished third in the 12th annual Bulldog Stampede Saturday at the WU Cross Country Facility. The Bulldogs had five runners in the top 30 to finish with 93 points. South Atlantic Conference foe and No. 30 Anderson placed five runners in the top 17 to claim the team crown with 40 points.
 
Anderson senior Spain Vaughan won the men's 7K race with his triumphant time of 21:43.73, edging Catawba senior Will Lyons by less than three seconds. Lyons' silver-medal time of 21:46.12 helped the Catawba Indians take second place on the team list with 43 points. Catawba had five runners in the top 13 Saturday.
 
Wingate's Oskar Enseling celebrated his Senior Day in style, posting a 7K time of 22:09.97 to take seventh place. Bulldog freshman Charlie Kyberd took 15th place with his 7K time of 22:30.67. Wingate's second and third finishers were freshmen, while the hosts' fourth and fifth finishers were sophomores.
 
Fourteen schools and 100 student-athletes competed in this year's Stampede with 13 institutions posting a team score. The '25 Bulldog Stampede served as a preview for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional championships, slated for Saturday, Nov. 8 on Wingate's home course.

- Wingate had won two of the last three contested Stampede events
- The 'Dogs finished first in 2018 and 2021
- Wingate won the first two Stampedes in 2010 and 2011

Senior Day Notes
 
- WU Athletics honored two December 2025 grads in a post-meet ceremony
- In addition to Enseling, Daniel Schmidt also received his Senior Day kudos
- Both seniors have earned All-SAC honors during their respective careers
- Schmidt finished fifth in the '24 SAC meet in Newberry, South Carolina
- Schmidt was first team All-SAC in '24 and third team in '23
- Enseling was second team All-SAC in '23
- He had two top-20 regular season performances in '24
- Both student-athletes possess 3.84 GPAs with their psychology majors
- Schmidt has a second major in religion and philosophy
- Enseling has a sociology minor
