Wingate cruises to 86-51 victory over Belmont Abbey

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs closed out 2025 in style, rolling to an 86-51 victory over Belmont Abbey College in NCAA Division II women's basketball action Wednesday afternoon in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 6-5 overall, while the Crusaders fall to 9-2 on the year.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 51 percent from the field, going 10-for-27 from three-point range (37 percent)
- BAC shot 33 percent from the field, connecting on three-of-17 from deep (17 percent)
- The 'Dogs held a 43-33 rebounding advantage and 14-9 edge in second-chance points
- Wingate scored 15 points off 15 Belmont Abbey turnovers, piling up 13 steals on the day
- The Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders 40-24 in the paint

FIRST QUARTER

- A Kallie Lusk layup gave Belmont Abbey a 6-2 lead at the 6:37 mark
- Isaac knocked down back-to-back triples to give the 'Dogs a 10-8 advantage a minute later
- A Brayla Harris layup gave Wingate a four-point lead with 4:37 to go
- Leigha Dennison's layup at the 2:23 mark tied it at 12
- Beale's triple gave the Bulldogs a 17-12 advantage
- Two Isaac free throws with two seconds left gave Wingate a 19-13 cushion

SECOND QUARTER

- An Ekperigha triple and Shorma layup in the opening minute put the 'Dogs on top 24-13
- An Ekperigha layup and Shorma triple stretched the lead to 16 at the 6:55 mark
- A Janiah Shular layup at the midway point pulled BAC within 11 at 33-22
- A jumper and a triple from Beale, along with a Bacon layup sparked a 9-0 run to make it 42-22
- A Harvey layup with 50 seconds left made it 44-25
- A Hughes layup with five seconds remaining put the 'Dogs on top 46-25

THIRD QUARTER

- Wingate used a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to 28 at the 7:36 mark
- Shorma started the spurt with a three-point play; it was a Bacon layup that made it 55-27
- A Beale layup, followed by Bacon's three-point play made it 62-29 with 2:16 to go
- A Montiel layup with 41 seconds remaining made it 66-33
- Bacon capped the quarter with a layup to give the 'Dogs a 35-point lead

FOURTH QUARTER

- A Bacon layup and Hughes triple made it 73-36 in the opening minute
- Harvey's jumper at the 7:40 mark made it 75-38
- It was a Kyndall Shivers triple with 1:26 remaining that capped the scoring on the day
