No. 1 Wingate, Bochaton win Battle at Hilton Head crowns Tuesday

Hilton Head Island, S.C.----The No. 1 Wingate University women's golf team won its fifth tournament in six tries this season, taking the title in Battle at Hilton Head Tuesday. NCAA Division II No. 1 and WU sophomore Amely Bochaton claimed the individual crown.
 
The Bulldogs won the team championship by 20 strokes, while Bochaton took individual honors by 11 shots. Lincoln Memorial hosted this event at the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes Golf Course in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
 
Wingate shoots even par over last 36 holes to take Hilton Head crown
 
The No. 1 Bulldogs concluded Monday's second round Tuesday morning with a four-under-par 284, the only sub-par team score during the three-round event. In Tuesday's third and final round, Wingate shot a four-over-par 292. The South Atlantic Conference members finished the 54-hole competition at 882, 20 shots better than No. 16 Lander in second place.
 
Bochaton wins ninth career title; Four Bulldogs land in top 16 and ties
 
Wingate sophomore All-American Amely Bochaton won her ninth career individual title with a seven-under-par 209, outdistancing Lander's Kajsa Lindqvist by a whopping 11 shots. She had a six-under-par 66 in the second round and a three-under-par 69 in the third session. Bochaton led the 'Dogs with 11 birdies, including six in her error-free second round.
 
Sophomore Olivia Meinecke tied for sixth place at seven-over-par 223. She had back-to-back rounds of 72 to conclude Wingate's first spring event. Senior Lauren Sutcliffe tied for eighth place, one shot behind Meinecke at eight-over-par 224. She had a one-under-par 71 in the second stanza and a two-over-par 74 in the third and final session. Sophomore Haley Paramore tied for 16th place at 12-over-par 228.
 
Next up for the No. 1 Wingate Bulldogs
 
Wingate will play in the Lady Moc Classic on Monday and Tuesday, February 23-24 in Lakeland, Florida. No. 10 Florida Southern College hosts this event at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club.
 
Wingate hosts the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate March 9-10 at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe. Last year, Wingate and Bochaton swept the team and individual titles. The Bulldogs won their home tourney for the fourth time in four tries by one stroke over SAC rival Anderson.
