Kingsport, Tenn.----The Wingate University women's swimming team rallied to win its fourth SAC championship in four tries at the Kingsport Aquatic Center Saturday. The Bulldogs finished the four-day event with 1826.5 points, 8.5 points more than second-place Catawba. The Catawba Indians led after the event's first two days.

Newcomer
Mathilda Sandberg was named the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year. She had a big week, earning an individual victory in the 100 Butterfly while contributing to WU triumphs in the 200 and the 400 Medley Relay events.

Sandberg swam in the championship finals in the 50 and 100 Freestyle races and the 100 Breaststroke event. Sandberg concluded her first conference meet by helping Wingate take the silver medal in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Women's 1650 Freestyle
Â
Livia Kingsland led the Bulldog charge, finishing third with her bronze-medal time of 17:14.05. Team captain
Grace Wilson took fifth-place with her time of 17:34.80.

Men's 1650 Freestyle
Â
Fernando Dehaudt led a 2-3-4-5 finish for the Bulldogs, claiming the silver medal with his time of 15:24.99. He won the event last year with a meet record time of 15:23.45. Newcomer
Emil Heigre finished third, thanks to his time of 15:26.65.

Women's 100 Freestyle
Natalia Dwojak and team captain
Nina Azirovic finished second (50.66) and third (50.83), respectively. The championship final was very competitive, with eight-of-eight swimmers earning an NCAA Division II B cut time.

Men's 100 Freestyle
Â
Yassine Sebbata earned his third individual victory, touching first in the 100 Freestyle with his triumphant time of 42.84. Sebbata earns a SAC and school-record with his Saturday performance.
Vladimir Krstulovic finished third with his time of 44.02.

Women's 200 Backstroke

Vera Karlsson and
Nicol Bellardi finished third (2:02.39) and fourth (2:02.75), respectively, to lead the 'Dogs. Newcomers
Greta Caprara and
Katherine Perdue took fifth and eighth place, respectively, to complete Wingate's finals quartet.

Men's 200 Backstroke

Andreas Carrascal concluded a highly-successful SAC meet, taking fourth place with his time of 1:48.86. Team captain and two-time Academic All-America
Ney Chagas Filho was fifth with his time of 1:49.90.
Joel Thompson tied for sixth place at 1:50.60.

Women's 200 Breaststroke

Annika Luce led the Bulldogs, snagging the bronze medal with her time of 2:19.26.
Natalia Dwojak helped facilitate a 6-7-8 wrap on the 200 Breaststroke, thanks to her sixth-place time of 2:20.64. Newcomer

Franziska Muhlberger finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Bulldog newcomers
Filippo Tabladini (2:01.34) and
Nicolo Cariboni (2:01.60) swam Wingate's fastest times, finishing third and fourth, respectively. The Italian duo lowered their seed times Saturday.
Artur Vilela de Queiroz won the B final with his 2:05.50 effort. He shaved two seconds from his seed time.

Women's 400 Freestyle Relay

Wingate earned a silver medal in the 400 Free Relay, thanks to its time of 3:24.02. Azirovic and Natalia Dwojak swam the first and fourth legs, while
Mathilda Sandberg and
Elizabete Paula Ozola had the middle two efforts.

Fittingly, Wingate won the last event of the final SAC championship. The Bulldogs touched first in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a new SAC record time of 2:54.27. Sebbata swam the first leg to add another gold medal to his collection. He was joined by Krstulovic,
Manoel Silva and
Anton Witzell.
