Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University indoor track and field teams competed in two events this weekend: The Camel City Sprints Invitational on Friday, Feb. 6 and the Camel City Distance Classic on Saturday, Feb. 7. The two Camel City events were hosted by the JDL Fast Track.

What They Are Saying
Wingate senior men's track student-athlete Dequan Thompson

"After two long weeks of not competing due to cancellations from snow, it was great to go out there and get an opportunity to be great. The main focus coming into the weekend was maintaining the upward trend…which I would say was accomplished!"

"The team is definitely building a strong core just based off competitions and practice I feel as if we definitely belong as the number one team in D2, but that will be shown as time goes on."

"I would love to give a shout-out to my teammate Zuri Anderson, who is a hard-working man. Through all the ups and downs, he still managed to put some of the best jumps in his career together. Keep working my man…no one can stop you!"

Wingate sophomore women's track student-athlete Hayat Abdeselam

"Being back at the track after weeks without racing due to the weather was such a great blessing. We are really close to the most important meets of the season and I'm more than excited to put all the work in from sprints and jumps into action. As I always say, the achievement is collective. The teammates make a huge impact when it comes to racing and/or jumping!"

"I didn't have the chance to compete as much, but it is what it is. I am more than thankful and excited for what God's plan is for the rest of the season!"
