Bulldogs and Wasps split Saturday doubleheader

Emory, Va.----The Wingate University Bulldogs took game one of Saturday's doubleheader 5-0 at Emory & Henry, while the Wasps held on for a 5-4 victory in game two of the South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader. The Bulldogs move to 15-9 overall and 2-2 in the SAC, while the Wasps go to 17-9 overall and 3-1 in league play.

- Each team had an extra-base hit; the 'Dogs had the lone homer
- The Bulldogs left five on base; the Wasps stranded one

- Lily Huneycutt tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out six

- Hobgood scored on a passed ball to push the lead to three
- Griffin's RBI single put the 'Dogs on top 4-0

FIFTH INNING

- Higginbotham reached on an error to start the frame, then went to second on a wild pitch
- A Huneycutt RBI groundout made the final margin 5-0

WRAPUP

- Huneycutt got the win, allowing just one hit in seven shutout frames, striking out six
- Malorie Reeves took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in seven innings of work

- Singles from Hobgood and Murray, along with an error loaded the bases
- An RBI single from Simmons cut the lead to three
- Patterson followed with a sacrifice fly
- Boatright's RBI double made it 5-4

WRAPUP

- Reeves got the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits in seven innings
- Robbins took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings
