#6 Bulldogs move to 5-0 in SAC play with 24-5 win at Mars Hill

Mars Hill, N.C.----The sixth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs had 18 players collect a point Saturday afternoon en route to a dominant 24-5 victory at Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action. Wingate improves to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in league play.

FIRST PERIOD

- Butrico started the scoring off Clark's assist 27 seconds in
- He struck again at the 8:14 mark off a Weisbrod assist
- Benzing scored with six minutes to go, giving Wingate a 3-2 lead
- Moran scored off Grant's assist with 3:48 left to stretch the lead to two
- Eggleton scored 21 seconds later off an assist from Spence
- Butrico's goal off a Benzing assist 45 seconds later put the 'Dogs on top 6-2
- Spence scored a minute later
- Butrico scored off a Watson assist with six seconds left to make it 8-2

SECOND PERIOD

- Clark's goal off a Grant assist at the 10:37 mark capped Wingate's 7-0 run to extend the lead to seven
- Weisbrod scored with 6:53 to go to make it 10-3
- Moran scored off a Grant assist 25 seconds later
- Moran scored off a Grant assist with 12 seconds remaining, giving WU a 12-4 halftime lead

THIRD PERIOD

- Moran started the second-half scoring 46 seconds in
- Butrico scored off a Spence assist with 13 minutes left to make it 14-4
- Spence set up Clark for a goal at the 10:24 mark to push the lead to 11
- Cifreo scored midway through the frame off a Benzing assist
- Spence scored off Papach's assist at the 5:43 mark to make it 17-4
- A Cox goal with 2:29 remaining gave the Bulldogs a 14-goal cushion

FOURTH PERIOD

- Nerone scored 96 seconds into the final frame
- Cox scored again two minutes later to give the 'Dogs a 20-5 advantage
- McKenzie scored less than a minute later
- Solazzo scored off a Mays assist with 11 minutes remaining to make it 22-5
- Smithson's goal with 10 minutes left gave Wingate an 18-goal lead
- Tomassone capped the scoring with 3:57 left off an assist from Cox
