SAC CHAMPS! #16 Wingate claims fourth straight regular season SAC title with 22-1 win over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The 16th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season in style Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a 22-1 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action at Irwin Belk Stadium and Founders Field. The Bulldogs improve to 14-3 overall and 10-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 7-10 overall and 3-7 in league play. Wingate claims the outright regular season SAC title, giving the 'Dogs their fourth straight regular season conference championship.

FIRST QUARTER

- Slayton scored twice in the first 28 seconds, with Knutson assisting on the opening goal
- Knutson assisted on the next four goals as WU took a 6-0 lead with 7:17 to go
- Garvin had two of the goals in the spurt, with Weber and Jones also scoring off Knutson assists
- Slayton's goal with 6:31 remaining pushed the lead to seven
- Rondeau scored off a Jones assist to put the 'Dogs on top 8-0

SECOND QUARTER

- Slayton scored off Knutson's assist 42 seconds into the second
- Knutson assisted on a Glover goal 12 seconds later to make it 10-0
- Jones and Glover scored in a 90-second span to push the lead to a dozen
- Brooks scored off Slayton's assist with three minutes remaining
- Brooks scored with nine seconds left in the half, giving the Bulldogs a 14-0 advantage

THIRD QUARTER

- Glover's goal 67 seconds in off Knutston's assist started the second half scoring
- Buckmaster scored off a Benner assist to stretch the lead to 16
- Garvin's goal off a Knutston assist with 10 minutes left made it 17-0
- Allen scored off a Johnson assist 90 seconds later

FOURTH QUARTER

- Knutston scored with 12:35 left in the final frame to make it 19-1
- Rondeau scored the 20th goal for the 'Dogs off a Johnson assist at the 9:31 mark
- Johnson's goal with six minutes left made it 21-1
- Johnson capped the scoring with two minutes left off Pavlick's assist
