Wingate concludes ’26 outdoor regular season at Charlotte Invitational

Charlotte, N.C.----Wingate University junior Assiya El Hafyan won the women's high jump at the Charlotte Invitational this weekend. The Charlotte 49ers hosted this annual event inside the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center Friday and Saturday. The invitational meet concluded the Bulldogs' outdoor regular season for the '26 campaign.
 
Wingate women's track and field notes
 
- El Hafyan cleared 1.71 meters to take the gold medal
- Hayat Abdeselam finished third in the triple jump (12.11 meters)
- Ona Alonso took sixth place in the 1500 meters (4:43.29)
- Wingate finished sixth in the 4x400 meter relay (3:47.16)
- Team members: Natalie Pinzan, Dounia Routbi, Corinne Cotton, Lara Castano
- Amber Lawless posted a personal-best in the hammer throw (43.32 meters)
- Chelsey Thomas led the 'Dogs in the 200-meter dash (25.81)
- Morgan Redfearn competed in the discus throw (22.35 meters)
- Sofi Diop competed in the long jump (5.12 meters)
 
Wingate men's track and field notes
 
- Three Bulldogs recorded personal-best marks in their events
- Camden Kilgore posted a personal-best in the 400 meters (48.89)
- Zedrick Williams had a personal-best in the 800 meters (1:59.89)
- Leonardo Tucker had a personal-best in the triple jump (12.68 meters)
- Dre Davis led the 'Dogs in the 200-meter dash (22.107)
- Kayman Forte topped the WU charts in the long jump (6.39 meters)
 
Next on the Agenda for Wingate University track and field
 
Wingate will compete in the South Atlantic Conference outdoor track and field championships Wednesday and Thursday in Emory, Virginia. Emory & Henry College is serving as host for the '26 league championship event. The Bulldogs are the three-time defending champions in both men's and women's outdoor track and field.
