No. 1 Wingate opens NCAA Championship play at PGA National

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.----The top-ranked Wingate University women's golf team opened play Tuesday at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship, posting an 11-over-par team score in round one at PGA National. Sophomore Amely Bochaton is the individual leader with her four-under-par 68.
 
The Bulldogs recorded eight birdies during the opening round as they began competition against the nation's top teams on the national championship stage. Weather wreaked havoc on the schedule, as only three teams (Wingate, Cal State San Marcos and Southwestern Oklahoma State) completed 18 holes.
 
Round one quick hits
 
- The No. 1 ranked player in the nation, Bochaton recorded four birdies
- She had 14 pars and not a single bogey during the opening day
- Olivia Meinecke (No. 3 national) recorded two birdies in round one
- She finished the opening round at six-over-par
- Lauren Sutcliffe added depth for the Bulldogs with a four-over-par round
- Jackie Gonzalez Howard carded a five-over-par round with one birdie
