‘DOGS WILL HOST! Wingate earns two seed in NCAA South Regional; will host second-round game May 10

NCAA D2 MEN'S LACROSSE BRACKET

Indianapolis, Ind.----The regular season SAC champion Wingate University Bulldogs have earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II men's lacrosse tournament. The 'Dogs are the two seed in the NCAA South Regional. Wingate will host the winner of the Barton vs. Anderson game Sunday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at Irwin Belk Stadium.

Tampa is the number one seed, followed by Wingate, Florida Tech and Lewis. Newberry is the five seed, with Lenoir-Rhyne, Anderson, Concordia-Irvine, Flagler and Barton rounding out the regional. Anderson will host Barton Wednesday, with the winner traveling to Wingate Sunday. Concordia-Irvine is at Flagler Wednesday, with that winner facing Tampa. The winner of Wingate's Sunday contest will face the Lenoir-Rhyne vs. Florida Tech contest. If the 'Dogs win on Sunday, they would host that contest as well. The winner of the Tampa game will take on the Newberry vs. Lewis contest.

The Bulldogs are in the NCAA Tournament thanks to a 13-3 regular season, including a perfect 10-0 mark in league play. The 'Dogs won five games against team ranked in the top 11 nationally. Wingate leads the nation in man-up offense, ranking fourth in scoring offense and points per game, fifth in scoring defense and seventh in assists per game.

The 'Dogs had 10 players earn All-SAC accolades, led by SAC Offensive Player of the year Vinny Butrico and Defensive Player of the Year Graham Tillett. The duo was joined on the first team All-SAC by Kyle Spence, Quad Williams and Joey Moran. Mason McGivern earned second team honors, with Sean Clark, Jaxon Grant, Austin Collins and Reno Vorderlandwehr collecting third team accolades.

The Bulldogs are making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh since 2017. This will be Wingate's sixth appearance in the last seven seasons. The Bulldogs won at Lenoir-Rhyne last year to advance to the national quarterfinals. Wingate advanced to the national semis in 2021. This will be the second NCAA Tourney home contest in program history. The 'Dogs hosted UIndy in the opener in 2023.
