No. 6 Wingate climbs into fourth following strong second round at Savannah Lakes Invite

McCormick, S.C.----The No. 6 Wingate University men's golf team put together a stellar turnaround at Monticello Golf Club, firing a blistering 14-under-par team second round score to surge into fourth place overall after a level-par performance in the opening round of the Savannah Lakes Invitational hosted by Lander University.
 
The squad bounced back in fine fashion during round two, showcasing elite scoring depth, a tournament-leading four eagles and exceptional execution on the long holes to power up the leaderboard. Wingate set the pace for the entire field in par-5 scoring, finishing at 14-under-par on the long holes.
 
Individual Highlights
 
Sophomore Finn Ellis paced the roster brilliantly through the tournament, opening with six birdies to fire a four-under-par 68 opening round before following it up with four birdies and an eagle to card a five-under-par 67 scorecard in round two, leaving him tied for second place individually with his nine-under-par 135.
 
Junior Max Drott put together a sharp first round featuring two eagles and a birdie to finish at two-under-par 70, then returned in round two to catch fire with six birdies for a four-under-par 68 round, placing him tied for sixth overall at six-under-par 138. Drott leads the entire championship field in par-5 scoring at an impressive eight-under-par.
 
Sophomore Mattia D'Errico built crucial momentum across the stretch, starting with three birdies in round one before exploding in round two with four birdies and an eagle to sign for a four-under-par 68 round, moving him into a tie for 34th place at even-par 144.
 
Sophomore Garrison Welborn battled through round two, adding valuable tournament depth by carding six birdies on the day. He is tied for 65th place at four-over-par 148.
 
Sophomore Charles Cirier dialed in during the second rotation, catching a rhythm with 5 birdies to finish under par with a one-under-par 71 round. He is tied for 93rd place.
 
Sophomore Alex Adler showcased early aggression on the course, carding five birdies during a busy opening round. Playing as an individual, Adler completed his day with seven birdies. He is tied for 80th place.
 
With the momentum from a stellar 14-under second round and dominant par-5 play, the team heads into the final stretch positioned firmly in fourth place at the Savannah Lakes Invitational.
 
Up next for the No. 6 Bulldogs
 
Wingate concludes the Savannah Lakes Invitational Tuesday with the third and final round. USC Aiken leads the field after two rounds with its 30-under-par total. The Bulldogs are only two strokes behind second place North Georgia at 16-under-par.
