Biography
2010-11: The Wingate defensive player of the year award was presented to Chase Smith following his junior season. Every game, he guarded the best player for Wingate’s opponent. Smith played 28 games and started 25 as a junior. His average of 7.4 points per game was fifth on the Bulldogs’ roster; he finished second on the team charts in free throw percentage. Smith led the Bulldogs in three-pointers made with 36. Smith tied his career-high of 17 points twice against Anderson. He scored double figures 10 times. Smith made three-of-four from the field making three-of-three three-pointers for 13 points in a win over Newberry.
2009-10: Smith appeared in 25 games during his sophomore season, averaging 3.0 points per game. He had eight points and two steals against Mars Hill. Smith had eight points at Lincoln Memorial, followed by an eight-point, two assist performance against Catawba. Smith notched seven points on two-of-two shooting at Lenoir-Rhyne.
2008-09: Smith started 22 of Wingate’s 28 games as a true freshman. Smith led the Bulldogs with 35 three-point field goals. He averaged 7.0 points per game. Smith hit a career-high (and team-best) 17 points in a 69-64 home victory over Lander (Nov. 26). He posted double figures on five occasions. Smith had 12 points in a home win over Carson-Newman (Jan. 14) and 10 markers in home triumph over LMU (Jan. 31). He averaged 23.6 minutes per game his first season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Smith led Eleanor Roosevelt High school with 17.4 points per game his senior season. The team won a regional title in his sophomore and junior year. Smith was a team captain his final two season, while being named the team MVP his final season. He played in the 2008 Under Armour Capital Classic All-Star Game as well as the 2008 Public vs. Private All-Star Game. Chase was born on September 28, 1990. He is the son of
