Athletic Department Mission Statement
The Mission of the Wingate University Athletic Department is to provide student-athletes with the opportunity and encouragement to progress toward the degree of their choice, and the opportunity to develop athletic abilities in an environment consistent with the high standards of academic scholarship, sportsmanship, leadership, and spiritual growth as set forth in the university statement of purpose.
Further, it is recognized that a healthy, well run intercollegiate athletic program:
• Is an important part of a well-rounded private university dedicate to the service of a broad range of student, faculty, and community interests.
• Can and should develop character, maturity and a sense of fair play, as well as athletic excellence.
• Is important in engendering community support for the institution at the local, regional, and state levels.
• Fosters pride in the university among faculty, students, alumni, and friends.
• Generates revenues to support, at least in part, intercollegiate teams and athletes.
• Abides by the letter and spirit of the laws requiring non-discrimination on the basis of sex, race, creed, or national origin.
