Ben Hinson anchored the Bulldog linebacker corps last year, recording 38 tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks in 2009. A former pre-season All-American, Hinson is ready to make his senior season one for the record books. His ability to get into running lanes and stop the run will be a key element in the Bulldog run defense. Hinson had 12 tackles in a big home victory over Brevard (Oct. 3, 2009).
In 2008, Hinson led the South Atlantic Conference with 105 tackles. He added seven tackles for loss. Hinson had double-figure tackles four times and nine stops three times in 2008. He posted a career-high 16 tackles at Carson-Newman, contributing a forced fumble. Against Lenoir-Rhyne, he had 12 stops and 1.5 QB sacks. In 2007, Hinson had 11 tackles with five tackles against Brevard. He recorded a fumble recovery in a win at UNC Pembroke. At Piedmont High, Hinson earned four letters for head coaches Rusty Jester and Jeff Pucek. He led the Panthers in tackles as a senior (152) and a junior (117). Hinson was an All-County choice three times and an All-Conference pick two times. He was the Piedmont team MVP and captain his senior year. His uncle and aunt are Tony and Kim Baucom.
