Wingate University Athletics

Austin Brown

Austin Brown begins her first season as assistant coach. She started her coaching career as the graduate assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Wingate during the summer of 2017. The Providence Day School (Charlotte) graduate is familiar with the Bulldog athletic program, as she hails from Indian Trail.

While at Providence Day, Brown excelled on the athletic field. She was honored as an All-State lacrosse performer for four years. Brown set PDS records in both goals scored and assists. In addition, she was a three-time All-State selection in field hockey.

After her time at Providence Day, Brown was a member of the inaugural lacrosse class at Coastal Carolina University. While at Coastal, she transitioned from the offensive end of the field to the defensive end. Due to an injury her freshman year, she earned three years of playing time at Coastal Carolina while competing in the Big South Conference.

Brown utilized her redshirt year by joining her younger sister as a member of the reigning NCAA Division II national champion Florida Southern College for the 2017 season. As a redshirt senior, Austin was an everyday player and helped lead the Moccasins to a Sunshine State Conference championship and a bid to the NCAA tournament.

The 2017 FSC Mocs made another title run, advancing to the NCAA Division II national championship game. During her time at Florida Southern, Brown earned All-Sunshine State Conference accolades. In addition, she was honored with a selection to the Division II North-South All-Star game.

While at Wingate, Brown will pursue a master’s degree in Sport Management. Her on-the-field duties are focused mainly on the defensive side of the field, where she will lead the defensive strategies for the 2018 season. Along with her responsibilities as a defensive strategist, Brown will be asked to assist in the recruiting of future Bulldogs. She will also monitor the existing team’s academic achievements.

Brown brings significant coaching experience to the Wingate program. She spent four years coaching the Queen City Stars, a high school elite travel team. Her passion for the game and her determination to make those around her better brings an exciting element to the women’s lacrosse program.
