Abbey Frail

Abbey Frail joined the Wingate coaching staff in the fall of 2020 after earning her undergraduate degree from Wingate University. Frail had a standout career for the Bulldogs, culminating in the 2020 season when she helped lead the Bulldogs to an appearance in the NCAA regional title match. 

Frail piled up the awards in her playing career, especially in her senior season. She earned first team Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA, while also being named the 2019 women's soccer SAC Scholar-Athlete. She also earned third team Scholar All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Frail earned first team All-SAC accolades in her senior season, while also earning All-Region recognition from the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA.
 
Frail and the Bulldogs played in the SAC Tournament title match for the ninth time in three of her four seasons, while finishing the season ranked 16th nationally in 2019. Frail entered the NCAA Tournament in her senior season as the SAC leader with a 0.56 goals-against average, while also leading the league with 12 shutouts. She ranked ninth nationally in shutouts and 16th in goals-against average. She ranked third in the conference in save percentage. Frail and the Bulldogs notched five shutouts over their final seven games in 2019, including a pair of shutouts over top-20 opponents in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Frail also got it done in the classroom throughout her Wingate career, earning a spot on the SAC President's List every semester during her undergrad years. She also earned a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll every year of her career. Frail won the WU Cannon College of Arts and Sciences American History Award, given to a student for excellence in the study of American History. She graduated summa cum laude at Wingate's May 2019 graduation ceremony with a 3.92 GPA, majoring in history with a minor in political science. She began classes in the Wingate MASM program in August of 2019. She was an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee in 2020. 
 
Frail has also made an impact around the community. She has participated in Wingate's One Day, One Dog event each of the last three years, where Wingate student-athletes volunteer to celebrate the school's history and accomplishments. She was a presenter at the Wingate University Well Spring Symposium and at the North Carolina Political Science Association Spring Symposium. She was a peer tutor at the Academic Resource Center in Economics and Political Science and was also a head coach for the girls' soccer team at East Union Middle School.
