Wingate University Athletics

Travis LeFlore

Travis LeFlore enters his fourth year as the Wingate University head men’s and women’s track and field coach in the fall of 2018. The Bulldogs continued to make a big impact on the conference, regional and national levels during the 2018 indoor and outdoor campaigns.

LeFlore helped the Wingate women’s track and field team defend its South Atlantic Conference outdoor championship in 2018. For the second year in a row, LeFlore was named the SAC women’s track and field Coach of the Year. The Bulldog men earned second place in the 11-team SAC field.

Wingate junior Vanisha Wilshire won four-of-four Athlete of the Year honors, sweeping indoor and outdoor Field AOTY laurels for both the SAC and the Southeast Region. Wilshire was one of seven Bulldogs to receive All-American honors in 2018. She was recognized at the NCAA indoor meet (third place) and the NCAA outdoor meet (national runner-up).

The Bulldog women’s 4x100 meter relay quartet made history in 2018, gaining first team All-American honors (outdoor) as the first relay group to qualify for nationals in Wingate’s NCAA tenure. Both senior triple jumper Nate Patterson and junior high jumper Isaiah Kyle received All-American honors at both the 2018 indoor and outdoor NCAA national championship events.

Travis LeFlore was a three-year assistant coach for the Bulldogs (2013-15). During his assistant coaching days, LeFlore was the jumps, sprints and combined events coach at Wingate. He served as the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator as well. His student-athletes hit 20 NCAA qualifying marks and set 26 Wingate school records in LeFlore’s three years with the program. He coached four SAC champions, six All-SAC performers and 22 All-Region athletes.

LeFlore was the Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2015 NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track & Field season. The USTFCCCA honored LeFlore for the third time in his Bulldog coaching career. He swept the 2015 indoor and outdoor honors for women’s track and field. In addition, he was named the Southeast Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season. LeFlore helped the Wingate men win the inaugural South Atlantic Conference track and field championship meet in 2014.

During his collegiate career at Tiffin, LeFlore was an eight-time NCAA national championship qualifier in the high jump, as well as a NCAA All-American. He was a nine-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) performer and an All-Ohio Champion. In 2012, LeFlore missed qualifying for the USA Olympic Trials in the high jump by one inch.
