Biography

2010: Maggie Malone averaged a team-best 4.46 digs per set during her junior season, as she continues to climb the school’s all-time charts. Her 1,449 career digs ranks second on the all-time list. Malone needs 261 digs in 2011 to become the school’s all-time leader. Malone is already the leader with a career average of 4.49 digs per set. She also holds the single season record with 633 digs in 2009, while averaging a school-record 4.98 digs per set that year, earning honorable mention All-American honors. Malone had double-digit digs 21 times in 2010. She had 19 kills in the victory over Flagler, followed by notching 17 digs in two sets at Mars Hill. Malone had 22 digs in the Francis Marion victory. She had 19 digs and two aces in the win at LMU. Malone piled up 20 digs in the victory over Tusculum. She had a season-best 29 digs in the SAC championship match against Tusculum. Malone piled up 28 digs in the regional semifinal match against Montevallo.

2009: Malone piled up a school-record 633 digs in her sophomore season, topping the 1,000 career dig mark in only two seasons at Wingate. Her 4.98 digs per set also set a school record. Malone earned second team All-SAC accolades, while also earning All-Region honors and being named an honorable mention All-American. Malone’s 4.49 digs per set in her career is the highest in Wingate history. Malone was named the MVP of the Food Lion SAC Tournament, while also earning All-Tournament honors at the NCAA Southeast Regionals. She had double-digit digs in 32 of her 38 matches in 2009, including her final 28 matches. Malone racked up a school record 41 digs in the 3-2 win at Lincoln Memorial. She set a school record for digs in a three-set match with 30 against Newberry. Malone had 34 digs to help Wingate rally for a 3-2 win over Flagler. She had 29 digs as the Bulldogs overcame a 2-0 deficit against Carson-Newman, followed by a 23-dig performance in the 3-1 win over Lincoln Memorial. She also led the Bulldogs with 51 aces in 2009.

2008: Malone was a First Team All-SAC and All-Region performer as a freshman while also earning All-Freshman team honors in the conference. She was fourth in the SAC with 3.94 digs per set while leading the league with 4.27 digs per set in conference matches. Malone also led the Bulldogs with 40 aces on the year. She had double-digit digs in 23 matches on the year, while topping the 20-dig barrier five times. Malone followed a 24-dig performance at Tusculum by racking up 23 digs against Catawba. She then tied a school record with 36 digs in a 3-1 win at Lincoln Memorial. She racked up 22 digs in the Southeast Regional Tournament against Catawba.

High School: Maggie Malone was an all-conference and all-area selection in her senior season at Marist High School, where she was a captain and four-year starter. Her First Alliance team earned fifth place in the 18 open division at the 2007 Junior Olympic national tournament. All eight of her First Alliance teammates signed with NCAA Division I programs in November.

Coach Collier: “Last season Maggie suffered a very serious ankle dislocation injury, and demonstrated some very impressive dedication by working hard in rehabilitation to return and lead us to an NCAA regional championship. She has accumulated a number of significant awards as our libero over the last three years, and no doubt has goals of leading us to another great season as a senior and our most vocal leader.”
