J.D. Lamm is entering his fifth season as the Wingate University head men’s and women’s golf coach in 2025-26. Both teams are coming off historic finishes in the 2024-25 season, with the men making a second straight national quarterfinal appearance and advancing to the first-ever national semifinals, while the women made the first national quarterfinal appearance in program history. The two teams combined for 12 victories in the 2024-25 season, including the women capturing the SAC title. Lamm was named the SAC Coach of the Year on the women’s side. Through his first four seasons, the Bulldogs have piled up 18 victories.
The 2024-25 season was highlighted by both teams having the National Freshman of the Year. On the women’s side, Amely Bochaton was named the WGCA National Player and Freshman of the Year, while breaking the Wingate and SAC single-season scoring record. She was named a first team All-American, alongside Jess Brown, who posted the second-best scoring average in program history. The two combined to win nine of Wingate’s 13 tournaments on the season.
On the men’s side, Brandon Skidmore was named the GCAA Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award. He posted a program-best 71.5 stroke average. That topped the scoring record set by Colin Dutton in the 2023-24 season, which topped Filippo Grossi’s 72.4 stroke average in the 2022-23 season. Skidmore was named a GCAA second team All-American, with Lewis Beeden earning honorable mention accolades. In addition, Jordan Hyland was named an Academic All-America honoree. Hyland was also an honorable mention All-American in 2024. Grossi was also a member of the GCAA National All-Freshman Team in 2023.
The Wingate men have broken the team’s scoring record each of the last three years. The Bulldogs posted a 295.8 stroke average in 2022-23, while compiling a 289.9 average in 2023-24. Wingate notched a 288.3 scoring average in the 2024-25 campaign. The Bulldogs posted a 15-under 825 at the Spring Bulldog Clash in South Carolina to break the team’s 54-hole scoring average, capturing the title. That was highlighted by a 268, the lowest round in program history (66, 66, 68, 68).
The Wingate women have broken the scoring record each of the last two seasons. The 2023-24 season, the ‘Dogs posted a 299.6 scoring average, while the 2025 season saw the Bulldog compile a 292.1 stroke average. Wingate posted a school-record 54-hole total of 856 at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial, finishing the tournament at 8-under. That was led by Bochaton shattering the 54-hole individual record, finishing at 17-under 199 (67, 65, 67).
Lamm joined the Bulldogs after a successful three-year run at Davis & Elkins College. That run was culminating by advancing to match play at the 2021 national championships. Lamm played his collegiate golf at Pfeiffer University, where he graduated in 2013 with a major in Sport Management and minor in Athletic Coaching. Since graduating, he has spent time on collegiate coaching staffs at Pfeiffer, West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins, while also serving as the Assistant Golf Professional at Old North State Golf Club.
Immediately after graduating from Pfeiffer, Lamm spent two years as the Volunteer Assistant Coach, while also spending four years at Old North State Club as the assistant professional, where he provided golf swing instructions to members, while also running junior golf camps and helping the club run several events, including the ACC Championship.
Lamm was named the head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2017, working through 2018. He was named the 2018 Mountain East Conference Women's Coach of the Year, with the team collecting a pair of wins and four runner-up finishes in the 2017-18 season. That included a second-place showing at the MEC Tournament championship.
Lamm was named the Director of Golf at Davis & Elkins College in the fall of 2018. He led the men's team to a historic season in 2021, qualifying for the NCAA National Championship and advancing to medal/match play, becoming the first team in league history to advance that far. He was named the 2021 Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Coach of the Year, while leading the Senators to four victories over the last two seasons, which included winning the title at the 2021 MEC Championship. Davis & Elkins had nine total top-three finishes over the last two seasons, including the four victories. Lamm also served as a member of the Regional Advisory Committee for the women's golf East Region and was appointed to the Golf Coaches Association All-Region and All-America committees.
