Junior Allison Smith went 2-0 on the week, including a season-opening no-hitter against Augusta State. Smith had a 0.50 ERA on the week, while striking out 18 against six hits and five walks. Opponents hit .122 against her. 

Smith started her season with a no-hitter against the Jaguars, who appeared in the NCAA Southeast Regional last season. She struck out seven on the day, leading Wingate to a 3-0 victory. Smith followed that performance by striking out 11 in Wingate’s 7-4 win over Coker, in which she allowed one earned run. Smith led the league and ranked ninth nationally with a 0.94 ERA in 2009. She also led the league in strikeouts per game and opponents batting average.
