Wingate, N.C.----- The Wingate University women's soccer team celebrated senior day in a big way, picking up a 3-1 victory over the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University Saturday at the WU Soccer Complex. Wingate honored seniors
Katelyn Butler (Markham, Ontario),
Jordan Mayer (Williamsburg, Va.) and
Madi Welch (Monroe, N.C.) in a ceremony before the game.
The Bulldogs finish the 2009 regular season at 10-3-3 overall, including a SAC record of 4-3-1. Wingate has earned the fifth seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference tournament and will travel to Salisbury, N.C. to face the fourth seeded Catawba Indians. LMU falls to 7-8-2 overall and 3-5 in the SAC.

Wingate took a 2-0 lead when junior midfielder
Julie Zielinski (Erie, Pa.) drove home a shot from outside the box for her third goal of the year at the 22:01 mark.
The Railsplitters got on the board with less than five minutes remaining in the first half, with sophomore midfielder
Samantha Meek (Tampa, Fla.) scoring on the feed from sophomore midfielder
Sarah Taylor (Ajax, Ontario).
The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead 21 minutes into the second half, with junior forward
Jenni Barbett (Severn, Md.) netting her third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs outshot Lincoln Memorial 15-2 on the day, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs will travel to Catawba College for first round action of the Food Lion SAC Tournament Wednesday, with the game time to be determined. The winner will advance to the tournament semifinals in Rock Hill, S.C. Friday. The championship game will take place Sunday afternoon in Rock Hill.
