Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men’s and women’s tennis teams picked up non-conference victories over Catawba College Monday afternoon at the Wingate tennis facility. The Bulldog men earned a 6-3 decision, while the Wingate women took an 8-1 victory. The matches represent Wingate’s lone dual match of the fall season.
The Wingate women swept the three doubles matches. Freshmen
Morgan Winston,
Ali Evers and
Olivia Poole came up big for the Bulldogs, sweeping straight set victories at the two through four singles positions. Veterans
Kelli Ferguson and
Helen Goreski also earned singles wins for the hosts. Catawba’s
Kasia Zielinski picked up the lone win for the visitors, taking a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Wingate’s
Kara Stasikelis at the number one singles spot.
In the men’s match, Catawba won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. The Indians won only one other match, as
Alex MacDonald earned a third set super tie-breaker victory over Wingate’s Braeden Patchell at the number four position.
