Wingate names Sarah Rahko assistant women's soccer coach

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University vice-president and director of athletics Steve Poston and head women’s soccer coach Gary Curneen announce the appointment of Sarah Rahko as assistant women’s soccer coach. Rahko begins her new duties immediately.

Most recently, Rahko was an assistant coach for one year at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga. While at CSU, Rahko served as the primary assistant. She provided assistance in recruitment evaluation, skills development, game strategy and tactics and other assigned duties.

Prior to her stint at Columbus State, Rahko spent one season as assistant coach at Georgia State University and two years in the same role at Florida Gulf Coast University. She helped FGCU make the transition from Division II to Division I.

Rahko spent one season as the head women’s soccer coach at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She led the NCAA Division III program as a full-time head coach and a physical education, recreation and athletics staff member. Rahko developed team and individual skills and established team and individual goals. Rahko also served one season as a part-time assistant coach at Wellesley.

A former two-time All American at Boston College (2000-04), Rahko was also three-time All-Big East Conference player as a midfielder. She earned NSCAA All-Region laurels four times. Rahko was named the 2000 Big East Conference Freshman of the Year.

In addition to her college career, Rahko was also a member of several US Youth National teams. She also played professionally for the Boston Renegades in the WPSL. Originally from New Hampshire, Rahko played on several USYSA Regional teams. She was the NSCAA New Hampshire Player of the Year in 1999.

Wingate University is ranked number three among NCAA Division II Academic All-America® producing schools in the 2000’s with 36 honorees during this millennium. Only Pittsburg State (Kan.) University and Truman State (Mo.) University have produced more Academic All-America® honorees during this time period. Wingate’s 45 Academic All-America® honorees (lifetime) is tops among all SAC schools.
