Hilton Head, S.C.----The Wingate University men’s and women’s tennis teams ended their Spring Break trip on an excellent note, taking victories over their counterparts from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon. The number 39 Bulldog women (10-1 overall) blanked the Bears 9-0, while the number 38 Wingate men (7-3 overall) collected a 7-2 victory.
The Wingate women’s team earned its 10th victory of the year without dropping a set. Kutztown sent only five players to the match, so the Bulldogs earned default victories at number six singles and number three doubles. Wingate won 6-0, 6-0 at the number three, four and five singles flights. The Bulldog men’s team concluded the Spring Break journey by winning five of the six singles contests. Wingate dropped only one set in its five singles triumphs.
Wingate returns to South Atlantic Conference action Saturday, visiting Lincoln Memorial University for an 11 a.m. twin bill. Kutztown will face Limestone College Thursday in Hilton Head (8 a.m. first serve).
