#32 Bulldogs go 5-1 in singles play to notch 6-3 win at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C.----The 32nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play, winning five of six singles matches to prevail 6-3 at Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference men’s tennis action Thursday afternoon. Wingate improves to 10-6 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 10-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs have now won 29 straight SAC matches.

Wingate won just one doubles match Thursday afternoon, getting an 8-2 win from freshman Sebastian Hall (Lörrach, Germany) and Sophomore Josh Eardley (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England) in number three doubles.

Freshman Kennedy Cancelado (Miami Springs, Fla.) won 6-1, 6-1 in number one singles for the Bulldogs. Hall added a 6-3, 6-2 win at number two singles, while a 6-1, 6-4 victory from freshman Roberto Hennis (Raleigh, N.C.) in number three singles put Wingate on top 4-2. Eardley won the clincher in number five singles, prevailing 6-1 and 6-1. Freshman Westin Bennett (Calgary, Alberta) added a 6-2, 6-1 win at number six singles to make the final margin 6-3.

Wingate returns to action Saturday, traveling to Lincoln Memorial for an 11 a.m. start.
